2024 Rice Trailers 7×22 16K Tilt Deck Equipment Trailer
The point of a tilt deck is that you stop handling ramps. The deck pivots down to the ground, the machine drives up, and the deck levels itself as weight crosses the pivot. An operator loading a skid steer four times a day gets those minutes back, and his back stays in one piece. Rice builds this one as model PTHD22.
Capacity first. Two 8,000 lb axles under a 16,000 lb GVWR, 4,090 lbs of trailer, 11,910 lbs left over for the load. A compact track loader with a bucket and a set of forks lands inside that number. A mid-size excavator does not. Check your machine’s operating weight against the payload before you commit, not after it is sitting on the deck.
Frame and running gear
Six-inch channel runs through the tongue and main rails, with 3-inch formed channel crossmembers on 16-inch centers under pressure-treated decking. The axles are cambered EZ Lube units with electric brakes on 17.5″ LRJ black wheels. The coupler is a 2-5/16″ adjustable rated to 16,000 lbs, paired with a 10,000 lb jack. Fenders are fabricated steel rather than stamped, so stepping on one is not a problem.
The finish matters
This trailer is powder coated in full, not sprayed with enamel. Powder shrugs off chain rash and does not lift and flake at the edges the way painted steel does after two winters parked outside. The wire harness is fully sealed and modular, which turns a dead marker light into a plug swap instead of a splice hunt in the dark. LED lighting and an emergency breakaway kit are standard.
An integrated storage box rides up front for chains and binders. D-rings and a spare tire mount were added at build.
Tilt against a beavertail with ramps: tilt loads faster and safer, but a long low machine can hang up at the break point as the deck comes level. If most of what you haul sits low to the ground, look hard at your approach angle before choosing tilt.
