2024 Rice Trailers 7×20 16K Tilt Deck Equipment Trailer
This is the 20-foot version of Rice’s heavy tilt deck, model PTHD20. Same 16,000 lb rating as the 22, two feet shorter. Buy the shorter one if your machine fits it. A 20-foot trailer backs into a driveway and turns in a jobsite gate more easily than a 22, and you are not paying for deck you never load.
The deck tilts to the ground in full. No ramps to unpin, lift, or replace when somebody bends one. The machine drives on at a shallow angle and the deck settles level once the weight passes the pivot. That is the whole reason people pay the premium for a tilt.
Numbers
Dry weight is 4,080 lbs against a 16,000 lb GVWR, so payload lands at 11,920 lbs. That covers most compact track loaders, a compact tractor with a loader and box blade, or a small excavator with a thumb. It does not cover a 12,000 lb machine plus a full attachment set, so add up what actually goes on the deck.
Build
The tongue and main frame are 6″ channel. Crossmembers are 3″ formed channel on 16″ centers, which is what keeps a 20-foot deck from flexing under a machine sitting on two narrow tracks. Decking is pressure treated. Axles are 8,000 lb cambered EZ Lube units with electric brakes on 17.5″ LRJ black wheels. Coupler is a 2-5/16″ adjustable rated to 16,000 lbs with a 10,000 lb jack under it. Fenders are fabricated hard steel.
The finish is complete powder coat, which is worth more than it sounds on a trailer that lives outdoors. Sprayed enamel chips at the deck edge and rust creeps under it. The wire harness is fully sealed and modular, LEDs throughout, and an emergency breakaway kit is fitted. An integrated storage box takes chains and binders. D-rings and a spare tire mount were added at build.
Before you buy, confirm what your truck is rated to tow with a loaded 16K trailer behind it. GVWR on the trailer plate and your truck’s legal capacity are two different numbers, and the second one is the one that gets checked at a scale.
