2024 PJ Trailers 7×14 Powder Coated Open Utility Trailer
A single-axle utility trailer for the homeowner or the one-truck crew hauling mowers, quads, mulch, and jobsite debris. PJ built this one to land at 2,995 lbs GVWR on purpose. Staying under the 3,000 lb line keeps the trailer out of brake-requirement territory in most states and keeps registration simple. The cost of that decision is payload. You get 1,430 lbs once you subtract the trailer’s own 1,565 lbs. A zero-turn and a few bags of seed, yes. A skid steer, no.
Deck and frame
The deck measures 83 inches across and runs on 2-inch treated pine over a 4-inch channel frame with crossmembers at 2-1/2 inches. Open deck means you load from whichever side is clear. The 2×2 side rails come off when the load is wider than the trailer, and the Ready Rail system with stake pockets lets you set tie-down points where the load actually needs them rather than where the factory happened to weld a ring.
Two ways on
The 4-foot rear ramp gate folds down for anything that rolls. ATV side loading ramps handle quads from the flank, which is what you want when the trailer is parked along a driveway and there is no room to back up to the tail. Removable ATP fenders make tire swaps and washdowns less of a fight.

One point to be clear about: the axle is an idler, so there are no trailer brakes on this unit. That is what keeps it light and cheap to maintain, and it is entirely fine inside the rating. Load it near the ceiling on a long downgrade and you will feel the difference in your truck’s brake pedal. Powder coat over paint is the other quiet upgrade. It chips far less on a trailer that lives outdoors all year.
