Set this 2002 Exiss SS20 next to a 12-foot two-horse and the difference is three more feet of box and a dressing room you will actually use. Set it next to a three-horse and it is a thousand pounds lighter and far easier to park. Fifteen-foot box, 2-foot short wall, 7-foot long wall. It lands in the middle on purpose.
All aluminum, and what that costs you
Every structural piece is aluminum, which is why a 15-foot two-horse still weighs about 2,800 pounds empty. Aluminum costs more up front and pays it back the first time you do not have to grind rust off a frame. The honest downside is that aluminum hides fatigue at welds instead of announcing itself with rust streaks, so on a 2002 the inspection shifts to seams, weld toes and any area that has obviously been repaired before.
Walk-thru door
The dressing room connects to the horse compartment through a walk-thru door. In February that matters. You check a horse or grab a lead without walking around the outside of the trailer in the wet. Owners of trailers without one complain about it constantly.
Numbers to check against your truck
GVWR is 7,000 pounds on tandem 3,500 lb axles and 15-inch tires. Inside height is 7 feet, roughly 21 hands. Two horses plus a loaded dressing room puts you near 5,200 pounds. A half-ton with a factory tow package handles that. A mid-size truck should not be asked to.
