The 70CH is Big Tex’s entry-level tandem car hauler and it does a specific job well: moving one vehicle behind a half-ton or three-quarter-ton truck without spending car-hauler money.

Seven by eighteen feet of deck on a 5-inch channel frame, tandem 3,500 lb axles with electric brakes, 7,000 lb gross. Add the low-profile dovetail at the rear and a classic car with limited ground clearance goes on without scraping.

Two things to check before you buy

First, the fenders are teardrop, not drive-over. You load between them, not over them. Measure the track width of what you are hauling and compare it to the space between the fenders before you order, because a wide vehicle will not fit and there is no way around that on this design.

Second, 7,000 lb is the gross rating, not the payload. The trailer’s own weight comes off that number before you put anything on it. For most cars and light equipment there is plenty left. For a full-size truck or a loaded tractor, look at a 10,000 or 14,000 lb trailer instead and we will point you at one.

What the fold-back tongue buys you

It shortens the trailer for storage. If you park in a garage or a tight yard, folding the tongue back can be the difference between the door closing and not. Small feature, and one people are grateful for every week.

Quick-lubricating hubs mean greasing without pulling the hub apart.
