Two and a half tons is the sweet spot for rental fleets and one-truck contractors. Heavy enough to dig a real trench and set pipe. Light enough that a 3/4-ton pickup and a 10,000 lb trailer handles it legally. The SWE25UF sits right there at 2,650 kg (5,842 lb).
The engine is the part worth paying attention to. It is a Yanmar 3TNV80, rated 14 kW (18.7 hp) at 2,400 rpm. That is not a house engine. The 3TNV series is one of the most widely fitted small diesels in the world, it turns up in machines from a dozen manufacturers, and filters and injectors are stocked at every hydraulic shop in the country. If you have ever waited eight weeks for a proprietary part, you will understand why that matters more than a horsepower figure.
Warranty
This unit is listed with a 5 year / 5,000 hour warranty. Get the terms in writing from us before you buy so you know what is covered and what the claim process looks like. We will send the document.
Straight talk on the brand
Sunward is a Chinese manufacturer and the dealer network in the US is thinner than Kubota’s or Cat’s. That shows up as a longer wait for a body panel or a proprietary control valve, and it shows up again at resale. The trade-off is the price, which is a long way below a comparable Kubota U25. If you run your machines until they are done rather than trading every three years, that math usually works out. If you plan to sell in two years, buy the Kubota.
