Four horses, no gooseneck hitch. That combination is the reason people shop the Hart Ultimate. This 2016 unit is champagne over aluminum, 7 ft. 6 in. wide by 7 ft. 4 in. tall inside, riding on two 7,000 lb axles with five Alcoa wheels. The width is the number worth noticing. Six extra inches across the stalls changes how a big horse stands.
Bumper pull is the trade you are making. You keep your truck bed, you skip the hitch install, and a properly rated three-quarter-ton handles it without drama. What you give up is the planted feel of a gooseneck in a crosswind or on a long downgrade. Load four full-size horses and you will feel the difference.
Horse side
Kickwall mats are heavy duty and the dividers are padded, with a full stud divider on the first stall. Mangers let each horse eat in place. Air moves through drop-down windows on the head side with face guards, drop-down windows at the rear, roof vents, and an insulated roof that keeps the interior from baking at a summer show. Face guards on head-side drop-downs are not an optional item. They are what keeps a curious horse from putting its head out at highway speed. The rear closes with a full load gate, LED load lights make night loading workable, and an escape door sits near the first stall.
Front and top
The dressing room measures 4 ft. 6 in., carpeted and braced for A/C. It carries a removable saddle rack, a swivel blanket bar mounted on the door, bridle hooks, and a broom closet on the driver side. Up top is a 6 ft. Hay Pod with a ladder. A hay pod carries feed without giving up stall or tack space, though it raises the center of gravity, so load it sensibly.
