Three horses behind a bumper pull, in aluminum. That combination is harder to find than it sounds, and it is the reason people go looking for the Lakota 83HBPSL specifically. This 2018 runs a 16-foot box on a full 8-foot outside width, and the extra width is where the third stall comes from. Trainers, breeders and families running more than a pair of horses are the buyers here.

The build is all-aluminum, including the floor. That matters most in road-salt country, where steel trailers rot from the floor up and the damage is hidden under the mats until it is expensive. Aluminum costs more up front. In exchange, a well-stored aluminum trailer from 2018 still has real resale value a decade from now.

Empty weight is 4,050 lbs against an 11,160 lb GVWR. That leaves roughly 7,100 lbs of payload, which is more than three average horses plus tack and hay will ever use. The number to think hard about is not the trailer’s rating but your truck’s. A half-ton is the wrong tow vehicle for a loaded three-horse. Loading and storage

An escape door lets you step out after leading the front horse in, instead of backing yourself past 1,100 lbs of animal in a 30-inch gap. Mangers give each horse head space and somewhere to put hay on a long haul. The dressing room sits on a 2-foot short wall against a 7-foot long wall, so it is storage for saddles, bridles and a tack trunk. Nobody is sleeping in it. Manual jack and a spare tire come with the trailer.

Inside height is 7 ft 6 in, about 22.5 hands, which clears most warmbloods without a duck. Axles are 5,200 lb on 16-inch tires.
