Two separate tack areas on a two-horse trailer is unusual, and that is the case for this 2007 Exiss SS-20. It is an all-aluminum straight load with a front tack room and a collapsible rear tack, which means you can carry gear for two riders and still fold the rear unit out of the way when you need a clear path to load.
The front tack holds five bridle hooks, a blanket bar and a two-place saddle rack, with a load light for chores after dark. The rear tack adds twelve more bridle hooks and its own LED light. Collapsing it takes a couple of minutes and opens the whole back of the trailer.
Air and light
Drop-down feed windows on the head side do double duty. Horses can eat at the window and the openings pull air through the front of the box. There is one roof vent per horse, and the double rear doors are glazed, so the interior does not feel like a cave once everything is shut. A telescoping divider and butt bar hold the horses in position.
Interior height is 7 feet 8 inches, which is generous for a two-horse, and interior width is 6 feet 9 inches. Rubber mats cover the horse area and the tack room floor. GVWR is 7,000 lbs on 3,500 lb axles.
Buying a used aluminum trailer
Aluminum will not rust a floor out the way steel does, but it work-hardens and cracks at welds and rivet lines. Get underneath and look at the crossmembers and frame joints. Check the tire date codes as well; the ST225/75R15D tires can look fine and still be too old to trust at highway speed. Coupler is 2-5/16 inch.
