40ft Heavy Duty Gooseneck Tilt Bed Trailer

This one is built around a single problem: getting a 40-foot container on and off a trailer without a crane or a reach stacker. Tilt the deck with the 12-volt twin-cylinder pump, hook the box, and pull it aboard with the side winches. One person can do it. That is the entire argument for the trailer.

No floor, and that is deliberate

The deck ships without boards. Containers ride on their own rails, so a wood floor would only add weight and rot underneath the box. Instead you get 3x5x3/8 angle iron skid plate runners for the corner castings to slide along, and a torque tube keeping the frame from racking when a load sits unevenly. The rear tapers to a 24-inch tail plate with keyholes for chain and twist-lock anchoring.

Eight 4-inch winches line the sides. A winch plate at the neck gives you a pull point for dragging a dead box up the deck.

Gooseneck versus bumper pull

The gooseneck is the right call at this length. Putting the pin over the rear axle keeps a 40-foot deck from wagging the truck, and it gives you a turning radius you can actually use in a storage yard. The cost is a bed-mounted hitch and a truck rated to carry the pin weight, which on a loaded container is not a small number. A bumper-pull version of this trailer would be cheaper to hitch and far less pleasant to drive.

What to confirm first

Check your truck’s gooseneck rating against a loaded 40-foot box, not an empty one. Inspect coupler play, brake function on both axles, and tire date codes. Cycle the tilt through full travel before it leaves.
