2005 Jamco 4HGN Four Horse Gooseneck
Air ride on a horse trailer is uncommon, so start there. This Jamco runs Dakota Air Suspension instead of leaf springs or torsion bars. Air takes the sharp edge off expansion joints and washboard gravel, and horses that arrive less beaten up load more willingly the next time. It is also one more system to maintain. On any air-ride trailer, put your hands on the bags and check the compressor before you write a check.
What was replaced
This one came in and went through the shop. Bearings and seals all replaced. One lube cap replaced. Front axle replaced. Skylight in the dressing area replaced. Lights, brakes, vents, roof seal, and floor all inspected. That is a substantial list and it is the reason we are comfortable calling a twenty-year-old trailer road-ready. It still shows honest cosmetic wear. Blue paint on a 2005 trailer does not look like blue paint on a new one, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Storage, front and rear
The front tack is the big one: four saddle racks, an 8-tier swing-out blanket bar, two brush boxes mounted on the door, 19 bridle hooks, and a bed area with a dresser organizer. A second tack on the left rear adds nine more bridle hooks and another 8-tier blanket bar. Count the mangers and there are 15 hooks more. Anyone who has hauled four horses to a three-day show understands why that matters.
Loading and horse area
A rear ramp instead of a step-up, which is easier on older horses and on anything with a bad loading history behind it. Drop-down windows with jail bars on the head side, plus a drop-down on the tail side of the last stall. Air vents and feeders throughout. An escape door, a rear ladder, and a hydraulic jack with a cover.
