A deckover puts the whole deck above the tires. You get a flat 102 inches across with nothing to steer around, so a mower deck, a pallet of block or a stack of 4×8 sheets sits square instead of jammed between fenders. On a between-the-wheels trailer that same load either does not fit or rides half on the fenders.
The trade is deck height. Riding over the tires puts the deck roughly a foot higher than a standard equipment trailer, and a higher deck means a steeper ramp for the same ramp length. Diamond C answers that here with 82-inch slide-in ramps, which is long for a 7K trailer. Anything with real ground clearance walks up fine. A zero-turn with a low deck or a car will not, and if that is your load you want a lowboy instead.
The ramps slide into carriers under the rear when you are done, so nothing hangs off the back and there is nothing to trip over on the deck. They are 2-inch square tube.
Frame and running gear
Six-inch channel frame with 3-inch I-beam crossmembers on 24-inch centers. Two 3.5K Super Lube axles with electric brakes on 4-leaf springs. Leaf springs on a trailer this size are the practical choice; they cost less to fix on the side of a road than torsion and you can re-arch or replace a pack anywhere. The coupler is a 2-inch Demco EZ-Latch adjustable channel unit rated 10,000 lbs, so it exceeds the trailer’s own GVWR by a comfortable margin.
Deck is 2-inch treated wood. There is a 2 x 1/4 inch rub rail with stake pockets and pipe spools around the perimeter, giving you strap points anywhere along the sides in addition to the added 1/2-inch D-rings. A lockable tongue storage box, spare mount and retractable steps are fitted.
