Cat 305E – Stock #ACM-28625

The 305E is Cat’s five-ton class machine, and it lands in the size bracket most contractors end up settling on. Big enough to dig footings and load a tandem. Small enough to float on a standard equipment trailer without a permit.

Power comes from a Cat C2.4, rated 31.2 kW gross (41.8 hp) and 30 kW net (40.2 hp). Operating weight is 4,915 kg (10,836 lb) in canopy trim, 5,088 kg (11,217 lb) with the cab. Standard stick digs 3,280 mm (10 ft 9 in) deep and reaches 5,600 mm (18 ft 4 in) horizontally. The long stick trades a little breakout force for 5,960 mm (19 ft 7 in) of reach and a 3,920 mm (12 ft 10 in) dump height.

Hydraulics and attachments

Equipment and travel circuits run at 245 bar (3,553 psi). Bucket digging force is 44.7 kN, stick force 24.7 kN on the standard stick. The primary auxiliary circuit flows 70 L/min (18.5 gpm), which is enough for a breaker or an auger in this class. A secondary circuit at 38 L/min (10 gpm) handles a thumb or a tilt coupler.

Boom swing is 80 degrees left without the stop and 50 degrees right, so you can offset the boom and dig hard against a foundation wall without repositioning the tracks.

Worth knowing

Top travel speed is 4.6 km/h (2.9 mph). This is not a machine you tram across a site on. Trailer it. The 400 mm (16 in) shoes and 1,980 mm (6 ft 6 in) transport width mean it will fit down most side yards.
