Twelve feet of box. That number decides whether this 2001 CM Odyssey is your trailer. It is one of the shortest two-horse straight loads on the market, which makes it easy to back down a barn lane and easy to store. It also means there is no real dressing room. If your tack rides in the truck anyway, that is a fair trade for the maneuverability.
Steel frame, aluminum skin, aluminum floor
The frame is steel and carries the load. The skin is aluminum, which keeps weight down and keeps rust streaks off the sides. The floor is aluminum too, and that is the part worth your attention. Floors are where used horse trailers die. Wood rots under mats where nobody looks, and steel pans pit from urine. Aluminum does neither. It still gets inspected, planks and crossmembers both, but it starts from a much better place than a 2001 wood floor would.
Escape door
There is an escape door at the front of the horse compartment, so you walk out past a loaded horse instead of backing down the side of the stall. On a straight load that door earns its keep every time you tie a green horse.
What it tows like
Empty weight is 2,800 lbs against a 7,000 lb GVWR, riding on tandem 3,500 lb axles with 15-inch tires. Load two average horses and you land near 5,000 pounds all in. Most half-ton trucks and properly rated SUVs handle that with a working brake controller. Inside height is 7 feet, roughly 21 hands of clearance, and outside width is a full 7 feet.
