A Cat backhoe loader in the 8-ton class, built to EU Stage V and running the C3.6 four-cylinder. Net power is 52 kW (70 hp) at 2,200 rpm, with 418 N·m of torque and an 86 percent torque rise down at 1,200 rpm. Torque rise is the number that matters on a backhoe. It is what lets you lean on the loader bucket without stalling.
Weights and axles
Nominal operating weight is 8,270 kg and the ROPS is rated to a maximum 11,000 kg, which is also the total gross weight ceiling. The rear axle is rated 26,500 kg static and 10,000 kg dynamic. The AWD front axle is 23,500 kg static and 9,000 kg dynamic. Counterweight options run 115 kg base, 240 kg mid and 460 kg maximum.
Digging and loading
Hoe dig depth is 4,778 mm on the standard stick and 5,700 mm with the extendible stick fitted. Loader breakout force is 54.8 kN. Hydraulics are closed center with a variable-flow axial piston pump, 160 L/min at 2,200 rpm and 250 bar at both the loader and the hoe. Controls as specified are mechanical at both ends, with pilot hoe controls available as a factory option. Worth asking about if your operators have been on pilot machines, because the changeover is not something people enjoy.
Transmission and steering
Standard shift is four forward and four reverse, 6 to 40 km/h. Powershift and auto-shift transmissions were offered, the auto-shift adding six forward speeds and a lock-up torque converter version. Steering is hydrostatic on the front wheels. Turning circle is 9,273 mm at the outside front wheels and 11,622 mm measured over the widest loader bucket.
Engine options across the range were 55.4 kW, 70 kW and 74.4 kW versions of the same 3.6 liter C3.6 block, all 98 mm bore by 120 mm stroke, all Stage V. Confirm which one is in this unit before you order.
