A 2018 JCB 15C-1 in the 1.5 ton class, showing 1,283 hours, with three buckets already on it. Net weight is 1,460 kg.
This is the size you tow behind a pickup. It goes on a single-axle plant trailer and runs on 9-inch rubber tracks, so it crosses a lawn without wrecking it. Drainage runs, footings for an extension, post holes, pond work, stumps. That is the job list.
The buckets
- 13 in digging
- 18 in digging
- 39 in grading and ditching
Three buckets on a used mini is worth real money. A grading bucket on its own runs into the hundreds, and the 39-inch one is what you will actually use for backfilling and finishing.
The backfill blade is 38 inches wide. Useful for closing a trench in one pass and for steadying the machine when you are digging out at reach.
Auxiliary hydraulic outlets are fitted, so a breaker, an auger or a compaction plate will run off it. The engine is a Perkins diesel, which is the good news on parts availability.
1,283 hours on a 2018 machine works out at roughly 180 hours a year. That is a machine that has been used properly rather than hammered.
