Steel weighs more than a wood deck and it is slick when it is wet, which you will notice the first time you load a car in the rain. What you get back is a deck that does not rot, does not need replacing in six years, and that you can weld a bracket or a tie-down point to whenever you want one. For a trailer that lives outside and gets used hard, most people come out ahead. If you park indoors and haul twice a year, wood is cheaper.

Loading

Four-foot beavertail with 5 ft slide-in ramps. That combination gets low-clearance cars on without a board under the ramp, which is the usual workaround on a flat-deck trailer. The driver’s side fender is removable and both fenders have steps, so opening a car door on the trailer is actually possible.

Securing the load

Four heavy-duty D-rings, stake pockets down both sides and a full-length rub rail. Between those you can strap a car by the wheels or the frame, tie down a UTV alongside it, or run a strap over anything else you have loaded.
