The 56Z-2 is JCB’s 5-ton zero-tailswing machine, and the reason people choose it over a conventional-swing excavator is simple. The counterweight stays inside the track width when you slew. Working a trench alongside a live road or between two buildings, that is the difference between finishing the job and closing a lane.
Operating weight is 5,542 kg. Dig depth is 3.84 m. The Stage V engine puts out 36 kW and does it without AdBlue or an EGR system, so there is no DEF tank to fill and no EGR valve to soot up. The body is 100 percent steel rather than plastic panels.
What comes on this one
- General purpose buckets at 450 mm, 600 mm and 900 mm, plus a 1,500 mm ditching bucket
- Hydraulic quickhitch and pipework
- 1,450 mm dipper
- Trackmaster PLUS 400 mm rubber tracks
- High flow and double-acting auxiliaries, ISO control pattern
- Heated cab with toughened glass and a high-back fabric suspension seat
- Two-way dozer blade as standard
- Pin pad immobiliser, immobiliser key and CESAR datatag
- LiveLink telematics with a five-year subscription
- LED amber and green beacons, USB media and 12V socket, refuelling pump, tool kit and grease gun
The bucket set is worth pricing out separately. Buying a 450, a 600, a 900 and a 1,500 ditching bucket after the fact is not a small line item, and this machine already has all four.
