Collector mowers get bought for one reason. You have to take the clippings away. Sports fields, cemeteries, business parks, anywhere a mulching deck leaves a mess that somebody then has to rake. The G231 dumps at 150 mm of maximum lift height, which is a low dump. You empty into a trailer or a barrow, not over the side of a truck. Know that before you order, because it is the most common mismatch on this class of machine.
Drive and engine
23.3 hp three-cylinder Kubota ETVCS water-cooled diesel, hydrostatic transmission, power steering and joystick controls. The fuel tank holds 20.5 liters, which is a long day’s mowing rather than a top-up every couple of hours.
Diesel in a mower this size is a commercial decision. Higher purchase price, lower running cost, and an engine that outlasts two or three gasoline units if it is serviced properly.
Deck
The deck is gear driven rather than belt driven. Belts are the consumable that stops a mowing crew mid-morning, and a gear drive removes them from the equation. This is a commercial specification machine rather than a domestic one, and the deck is where that shows up first.
