Sixty inches of fabricated deck and 11.2 mph of ground speed. If you are cutting acreage on a clock, those two numbers are the job. The Z781KWTi-60 is the top of Kubota’s Z700 EFI series and it is built in the United States.

The deck is 6 in deep, fully welded from 8-gauge steel. Fabricated decks cost more than stamped ones and they are heavier, but they hold their shape after you clip a stump and they leave a cleaner cut in tall wet grass. Power is a Kawasaki FX850V-EFI rated 29.5 hp, feeding dual Parker HTG14 transmissions with integrated pump and motor in each unit.

Operator station

The 21.2 in high-back suspension seat slides six inches fore and aft and has three inches of vertical travel you adjust for your weight and the ground you are on. There is a deck step indicator so you can find your footing getting on and off, a cup holder and storage box beside the seat, and a 12V outlet for a phone. Throttle is a dial rather than a lever, which sounds like a small thing until you have used both.

Traction and stability

The fuel tank sits under the seat, which drops the center of gravity where it matters on a slope. Rear tires are 24 in low-profile on 14 in wheels, giving a wider footprint and less turf tearing on turns. Casters are 6.5 in wide, now standard across the 48, 54 and 60 in decks.

Servicing

Battery, harness, fuel shutoff and fuses all live under the seat panel. Lift it and you have access. The switches and dials on the right fender, the parking brake switch and the neutral lever switches are all waterproofed, which is the failure point that used to strand these machines.
